Bringing support to you, and making your wellness goals achievable
PERSONAL TRAINING
I work mostly with people who donāt want to exercise in public gyms. Your body doesnāt know whether youāre at the gym or not, and so you can achieve your goals at home. You can be assured of the quality of my training as I have achieved professional status with CIMPSA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity), and I also have a Masters in Exercise Medicine. I work with all kinds of clients, but I specialise in helping people who are new to exercise, struggle to maintain a regular routine, or are in midlife and beyond. Training can be as vigorous or as light as you need.
As an exercise physiologist, I have experience in exercise testing so you have the option to test your fitness progression. I can also prescribe exercise plans, using exercise as medicine for health and longevity.
OPTIONS:
1. PERSONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME: A training programme that fits your life, not the other way round. If you just want a clear plan you can follow, without the guesswork, this is for you. Together we'll build a realistic programme around the time you actually have, whether that's 20 minutes or an hour. Whatever your schedule looks like, your plan adapts to it.
What you get:
A personalised programme designed around your goals, your schedule and your starting point
Regular check-ins weekly, fortnightly or monthly, whichever suits you, to review progress, keep you motivated and update the plan so you keep improving
Home training support: I'll look at your space and any equipment you have (or want to use) and build the programme around it
Technique coaching so you can train safely and confidently on your own
Flexible sessions: face-to-face, online or outdoors
Nutrition guidance to help your diet support your goals
2. TRAINING / ONE-OFF SESSIONS: Iāll help you reach your goals by training with you as often as you want, with or without a programme. You let me know what you want to achieve, and I will tailor a session accordingly (e.g., strength, toning, cardiovascular, general fitness). I have mobile equipment and will come to your home or workplace. There is also the option to meet online or outdoors.
WELLBEING COACHING AND MENTORING
Coaching is a systematic practice for making meaningful changes to your lives. Coaching is helpful in establishing your goals, and looking at motivation and plans to deal with obstacles in achieving your goal. It is especially useful in overcoming procrastination so coaching will complement any wellness programme to ensure you achieve your objectives.
I started coaching clients in February 2015, having trained through a Post Graduate Certificate in Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology.
Coaching can be woven into other programmes, such as supporting long-term wellness/ exercise habits and wellbeing goals, to help you stay on track and follow through.
YOGA, BREATHWORK, MINDFULNESS / MEDITATION AND RELAXATION
These practices often work best together, blending movement, breath and stillness to support your whole wellbeing.
YOGA - Iāve been teaching yoga since 2007, working with all ages, from young to later years, and all abilities, from beginners to athletes, including runners and footballers. Iāve practised many styles of yoga, from gentle hatha, to more physical, dynamic types of yoga, and Iām also trained to teach somatic yoga.
I adapt my teaching style to each clientās goals, whether thatās strengthening weaker areas of the body, or working more energetically to help you feel calmer and happier. Generally, I teach yoga in a style that supports your training, and your overall physical and mental health. I aim to promote relaxation, injury prevention and rehabilitation.
BREATHWORK - I have been working with breathwork since 1997, and deepened this practice through my yoga teacher training in 2007, and later through Breath for Life training in 2020. Breathwork is integral to your health, how you breathe affects your mood and your energy. Specific breathing practices can be adapted to meet your goals. Many clients use breathwork to manage anxiety, improve sleep, or perform better under pressure. Breathwork can help you feel calmer, but I can also teach you practices to help you feel energised.
Yoga can help you: improve core strength and balance; energise or relax; increase flexibility; increase muscle tone; release muscle tension; increase awareness of your body, mind, or external factors; address health concerns ā physically or psychologically.
MINDFULNESS AND MEDITATION - Whilst doing yoga, I developed an interest in meditation. I started doing mindfulness meditation in 2005 and noticed how much it helped relieve stress, anxiety and low mood. Mindfulness helped me to stop dwelling on what may or may not happen, and it helped me to feel calm despite the pressures of my job. I also noticed my awareness and concentration improved, so I was less distracted at work.
I started teaching meditation and mindfulness in 2008. I studied a mindfulness module at Salford University that was part of their Integrated Practice programme, and I have since completed further training with Integrated Mindfulness.
Whether you want to support your mental health (relieving stress, anxiety or depression), or you are looking to improve performance in sport or work, mindfulness is an excellent practice. It helps with concentration and focus, reduces worry and stress, and increases awareness and overall wellbeing. Bespoke mindfulness practices can be incorporated into your programme.
RELAXATION - Releasing tension supports both physical and mental health. Iāve been using guided relaxations with clients since 2007. Theyāre especially helpful if you find your mind is ābusyā, giving it something to focus on rather than wander, whilst allowing your body and mind to ālet goā. If you struggle to relax, guided relaxations can support you to release tension and learn to switch off, even if that feels difficult at first, and you can then progress to relaxing without guidance. If you find relaxation easy, guided relaxation may help you experience even deeper states.
MASSAGE
I qualified as a massage therapist in 2021. I specialise in relaxing massage techniques (Swedish massage) that identify and release tension. Massage can help relieve muscle tension, ease stress, improve circulation and support recovery after exercise. Massage is available as standalone service, or can be added onto the end of a training or yoga session, or included within your programme.
